About EWIS Training — Target Groups 1 & 2 Initial
EASA’s guidance on electrical wiring interconnection system training, AMC 20-22, sets a minimum initial training programme for the staff who maintain and inspect aeroplane wiring. Appendix A to AMC 20-22 defines that programme for Target Group 1 — qualified staff performing EWIS maintenance — and Target Group 2 — qualified staff performing maintenance inspections on wiring systems. This course delivers the Target Groups 1 & 2 initial training in a single programme.
After a background chapter on what EWIS is, why it became a safety priority and the training requirements that followed, the course works through the seven Appendix A modules in their original order, with the module titles carried verbatim — the lesson list above mirrors it topic for topic: Module A, general EWIS practices; Module B, wiring practices documentation; Module C, inspection; Module D, housekeeping; Module E, wire; Module F, connective devices; and Module G, connective device repair. Each module ends with a quiz, and there is no final examination.
Who typically takes this course:
- Target Group 1: qualified staff performing EWIS maintenance, such as avionics skilled workers and B2 technicians
- Target Group 2: qualified staff performing maintenance inspections on wiring systems
- Certifying staff who release EWIS work, and workshop staff maintaining wiring in panels, racks and junction boxes
The course is delivered as presentation slides with voice-over across 17 lessons, with instant access after purchase and a same-day digital certificate on completion.

Where this certificate is accepted
EASA does not approve individual training courses, online or classroom. Under point 145.A.30(e) the maintenance organisation decides, through the procedures in its MOE, which training meets its competency standard, and the competent authority accepts that MOE. That applies to Part-145 organisations in every EASA member state and, under UK Part-145 and SI 2023/588, in the United Kingdom.
